House and Hospital
New Components Added
to “Bridges To Our
Community”
The Children's Museum of Cleveland, in partnership with
Rainbow Babies & Children’s
Hospital/University Hospitals of
Cleveland and with the support of numerous foundations and
sponsors, is proud to announce the addition of two new
components to the “Bridges To Our Community” exhibit – a
house and a hospital! The new exhibit opened to the public
with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00
a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2006.
These new two-story
components are designed to complement The Children's Museum’s
mission to foster creativity and promote early childhood learning
through hands-on play and parental/caregiver involvement.
Educational programming, consisting of an integrated curriculum of
math, science, history, and the arts, and that is age and
developmentally appropriate for young children, will be shared
through daily interpretations. In addition to bolstering the
educational philosophy of the Museum, the components will enhance
the current exhibit by integrating two very important and
recognizable locations of every community.
In the house children can
start and end their day of creative play within the exhibit. After
making their bed, cooking a nutritious breakfast, and dressing in
professional apparel similar to their parents, children can role
play a day at work as they head off to explore the “neighborhood.”
Following a bus ride to the grocery, bank and outdoor café children
can return home in time to prepare dinner and tend to yard work.
The replica
Rainbow
Babies & Children’s Hospital, including a doctor’s office, nursery,
and more, will offer ample and varied opportunities for creative
role playing. Important parent/caregiver interaction will allow for
the introduction and familiarization of life-altering experiences
such as the birth of a sibling, visits to the doctor, medical
emergencies, and other healthcare-related activities.
