Blast Off!, developed in collaboration with experts from NASA’s Glenn Research Center, is designed to allow young children to pretend, play, and explore space in a fun and creative atmosphere. By encouraging family participation and incorporating hands-on family learning in an interactive environment, the whole family can let their imaginations soar! At the same time, young children will build essential developmental skills as well as learn something about math, science, language literacy and even the arts (based on Ohio education standards), and how it all interrelates. The components, complete with interpretations and curricula, include:
Where you don a replica spacesuit and pretend you’re an astronaut as you navigate your way into space.
Explore the moon’s surface and learn about gravity as you manipulate the lunar rover.
Watch actual NASA video footage of astronauts exploring the moon’s surface.
Learn about the earth’s tilt and rotation and how it influences the seasons.
Learn all about the constellations as you connect the stars or create your own space drawings.
Use your imagination to build a replica rocket or create your own unique design.
Countdown to blast off and learn how this area is the center for monitoring activities and communicating with the astronauts in space, whether in the rocket or space station.
Imagine what it is like to spend an extended amount of time in space, conduct experiments in the lab area, learn about “space food” and even sleep on a wall!
