Mother Goose Math: Rhyme & Arithmetic is a hands-on, interactive exhibit that brings to life scenes and images from popular nursery rhymes. In the various components of Mother Goose Math, children will use reading to explore mathematics. This exhibit, and the nursery rhyme theme, provides an excellent tool through which complex topics can be simplified and taught to children of all ages. The components, complete with interpretations and curricula, include:
Fit stones of various shapes and sizes as you build, knock down, and then rebuild the famous bridge.
Where the concept of multiples is explored by sorting hats, tails, veils and wigs while tracking them to the appropriate animal.
Help a child learn the days of the week and months of the year while identifying the seasons and exploring patterning and sequencing.
A perfect place to act out your favorite rhymes with puppets.
Solve the riddle of the pears and explain the homophone “pear” and “pair.”
Where you can count and sort money, learn simple fractions using blackbird pies, and count and graph blackbirds, bread and honey.
The activities in “Peter Piper’s Picking Patch” deal with quantification. Children are asked the question of how many peppers are in Peter Piper’s peck, and by filling and dumping peck bushels with peppers, children can find the answer.
In Mary Mary’s Garden, children can use their imagination to arrange magnetic flowers, garden tools, butterflies, and more or match pattern cards.
The rhyme comes to life with an over-sized, child-friendly clock. Children can slide a mouse up a track on the clock, while trying to tell time with egg timers, hourglasses, digital and mechanical clocks.
Explore weight with this widely recognized favorite nursery rhyme.
