Families become explorers as they dig for pirate treasure

and investigate the history of Earth's most exotic islands in

Galapagos Sands: Exploring the Centuries!

Exhibit components include:

  • Darwin Research Station ~ How many animals you can find inside the tent? Dress up as a research biologist as you sort and classify Iguana and Tortoises.

  • Ships ~  How many different ships, and their associated occupations, traveled through the Galapagos Islands? Discover and learn about the different types of ships used in the Galapagos Islands throughout the centuries.

  • Tortoise Nest ~ Dress as a Tortoise and experience how it must feel to have a shell on your back! Then crawl through the "Tortoise Tunnel" and learn how Tortoises lay eggs in their nest.

  • Dig Site ~ Can you find a pirate sword, an explorer's map or Darwin's magnifying glass? Explore and see if you can locate buried objects, both treasure and trash, left behind by humans throughout the centuries!

  • Post Office Bay ~ Learn how a barrel was used as a Post Office! Be sure to write your own letter about what you saw or what you liked best in the Galapagos Sands exhibit.

  • Sand Sculpture ~ Cleveland's own Carl Jara, one of the nation's top sand artists returns to create another of his one-of-a-kind masterpieces.
